Aspen Mountain rises right out of town as if it were painted on a postcard. Called Ajax by the locals, Aspen Mountain has steep glades, secret powder stashes, and a famous ski scene. Because of its complex terrain, Aspen Mountain is best for Intermediate to Expert Skiers.
Aspen is the most famous ski town in the world. Even if you aren’t a skier, you can still take in the ski scene. Catch the Silver Queen Gondola from the center of town, and rise 3,260 feet to the Sundeck, a restaurant that overlooks the Elk Mountains. Reaching the top of Aspen Mountain is an important part of every Aspen winter vacation.

Home to the original Bell Chair, Bell Mountain is one of Aspen’s first ski areas. The Face of Bell is the west side of Bell mountain, which makes for great afternoon light. Open glades and great snow await adventurous skiers.
Ruthie’s Run provides great intermediate skiing with expansive views. Named after an original Aspen ski bum, Ruth Humphries, Ruthie’s Run has been the site of many World Cup Ski Races. Ruthie’s Run is known as one the Classic runs in North America and is a part of International Skiing History.
Bonnie’s is Aspen Mountain’s Classic Restaurant. Located mid-mountain on the side of North American, you’ll find home cooked food and the best Apple Strudel of your life.
Impressive views and sunbathing celebrities greet you as you enter the Sundeck at the top of Aspen Mountain. The Sundeck is a great place to grab some food, take photos, and warm up your toes. Since it’s only a short walk from the top of the Silver Queen Gondola, you don’t have to be a skier to enjoy the Sundeck.
Located right at the base of the Silver Queen Gondola, Ajax Tavern is a great spot for both lunch and après ski drinks. Sip on a drink, watch skiers fly down Little Nell, and spot celebrities, Ajax Tavern is a classic Aspen experience.
A local’s favorite, Big Wrap is a perfect lunch spot for skiers on the go. Run across Durant Ave at the base of Gondola, and grab a healthy sandwich to go.
You’ve seen it in the winter, now check it out during the summer! The Silver Queen Gondola whisks you from the beating heart of Aspen to the serene summit of Ajax in minutes. Give a few sun salutations from 11,200 feet with a yoga class at the Sundeck. Naturalist walks, the highest disc golf course in North America and bluegrass concerts on Sundays round out the roster atop Aspen Mountain.

Aspen Highlands has expansive views, extreme skiing, and world-class on mountain dining. Located just outside the town of Aspen, Aspen Highlands is built onto a ridge that rises for over 4,000 feet. Highlands Bowl, which requires a high-elevation climb up the ridge, is a test piece for adventure skiers. Cloud Nine Bistro, a European style restaurant with direct views of the Maroon Bells, offers spectacular on mountain dining.

Rising 4,000 feet above the Roaring Fork Valley, the Highlands Bowl is the one of skiing’s ultimate runs. Getting to the top of the bowl requires an 800 foot hike up the ridge. Adventurous skiers are rewarded with spectacular views and thousands of feet of untracked powder. The Highlands Bowl has a weather pattern of its own, which means the snow in the bowl is often twice as deep as it is in town.
Once named the steepest run in America, Lower Steins is cut into the canyon walls over Maroon Creek. Lower Steins, a locals favorite, is a great way to end your day at Aspen Highlands.
Comprising the Eastern facing side of Highlands Ridge, Steeple Chase is where you’ll find the steep and deep. Dropping steep glades down to Deep Temerity will test your leg strength.
Founded by a group of young Aspen Locals, the Ale House has become one of the best après ski spots in Aspen/Snowmass. During the end of the year party, known as Highland’s Closing, the Ale House transforms into a wild festival. A big open bar, plenty of slope side seating, and fresh pizza make the Ale House the place to visit in Highlands Village.
The Cloud 9 Bistro gives you a special taste of European style mountain dining in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Serving fondue, raclette, and warm wine, Cloud 9 embraces the mountain traditions of the Alps. During the second seating, music and dancing are often a part of the fun. Also serving dinners, you can book a night snow cat rides to Cloud 9. The special dining experience at Cloud 9 Bistro has made it one of the most popular Aspen/Snowmass restaurants.
Located mid-mountain, the Merry Go Round is the place to warm up and grab some food and warm drinks. The laid back atmosphere is perfect for families. In the spring, the south facing front deck is full of people taking in the warm Colorado sun.

Après is what we do best in this town! Don’t forget to stop by Ajax Tavern for Après Ski on the weekends from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. during winter months. Buy a bottle or glass of Clicquot, and please do not forget to get their famous truffle fries if you’re craving a bite to eat with your family or friends. Ajax Tavern is the place to see and be seen for the Aspen après ski scene! Ajax Tavern is also open during the summer — the outside deck’s large umbrellas make for amazing al fresco dining.
