All About the Aspen Farmers’ Market

Since 1998, locals and visitors have looked forward to the weekly farmers’ market during Aspen’s summer season. Learn more about what makes this tradition so special!

When:

From mid-June to early October, the farmers’ market is open on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event, also known as the Aspen Saturday Market, is the perfect place to enjoy a casual breakfast, lunch, or snack.

Where:

The market starts at the corner of Galena Street and Hopkins Avenue and stretches down to Hunter Street. It’s within walking distance of many local attractions, such as Aspen Brewing Company and the Gucci storefront.

Aspen Farmers Market

What:

When you visit the Aspen Saturday Market, you can expect to get your hands on lots of high-quality goods. Look forward to perusing Colorado-grown produce and Colorado-produced artisan products, including fruit, vegetables, bread, meat, jam, and more. There’s even a food court where you can sit down and enjoy some of the food you purchased.

Aspen Saturday Market Vendor Criteria:

Are you interested in playing a crucial role in this beloved event? Sign up to be a market vendor! Applications are due annually during December of the previous year. For questions, reach out to aspensaturdaymarket@gmail.com.

Puppies?!

Each week at the Aspen Farmers’ Market, the Aspen Animal Shelter brings a group of dogs that are available for adoption. Their goal is to spread the word about all the wonderful adoptable pets at the shelter. So, you might go to the market for veggies and come home with a puppy!

A Guest Testimonial:

“One of the pleasures of summer in Aspen is the farmers’ market. I still dream about those only-grown-in-Colorado specialty tomatoes. Local vendors show up in force in early June and line the streets for this event. Being a city girl, I didn’t realize Colorado had so many farms. I learned lots talking with the local farmers and ranchers. Do not leave without purchasing some of the Colorado Mountain honey. It is the tastiest treat! Something about the mountain clover that gives it its distinct taste. I also love the artisanal kombucha.”

Anyone that has fallen in love with Aspen, Colorado, will tell you that there’s no bad time to visit. With so much to offer during each changing season, you can’t go wrong! Choosing the best time to visit Aspen depends on what you’re looking to get out of your mountain getaway. Would you rather come during the off-season to avoid the crowds, or do you like the energy of the town when it’s at its peak months? It’s for you to decide, and we are here to help!

No matter what season you decide to visit Aspen during, our complimentary Travel Guide will help you plan your trip. Get yours today!

Get the Travel Guide

Deciding the Best Time to Visit Aspen

When deciding the best time to visit Aspen, there are a few factors to take into account. What are you looking to do, what would you like to see, and what weather do you prefer? Each season offers something new, so you might even want to stay with Aspen Signature Properties multiple times throughout the year.

Aspen in the Winter

We will start with the most popular time to visit Aspen: the winter. Once the ski season starts, visitors come flooding in to hit the slopes! Nearly 200 inches of snowfall keep the powder fresh, and winter sport aficionados can’t stay away. Plus, there are tons of winter events you won’t want to miss! With our ski in, ski out rentals, you can have the winter getaway of a lifetime.

You might have to combat some crowds, but we love the energy our mountain town gets when it’s full of visitors! Work around the crowds when you take advantage of our concierge service. Your expert concierge can help you secure ski passes, dinner reservations, event tickets, and more!

Aspen in the Spring

Spring is the least crowded season in Aspen. If you’re looking to get away without any crowds, spring is the time to do it. Temperatures range from the 20s to 60s, so you never know what you’re going to get. However, if you bundle up, you can enjoy some outdoor activities such as biking or hiking. This is also a very rainy season, so you will need to check the weather before deciding on which activities you’d like to enjoy during your vacation. Aspen Signature Properties Tip: Some businesses close during the spring to enjoy some time off before summer. Feel free to ask us what is open!

Aspen in the Summer

Aspen is full of life during the summer. The snow melts and brings bright, vibrant greenery back into our landscape. With weather averaging in the 70s, it’s the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors. See our gorgeous scenery when you explore the area– there are so many things to do in the summer! If you talk to enough Aspen locals and regulars, you might just hear a common theme; they came for the winter skiing but stayed for the Colorado summer.

Aspen in the Fall: The Off-Season

We like to think of fall as our magical secret season. Many people write this off as the off-season, but we disagree. Fall can be an amazing time of year with mild weather, beautiful foliage, and a dusting of snow on the high peaks. You can get better deals on airfare, lodging, and food with no summer crowds to have to share it with. Aspen regains its small-town feel in the off-season, a quieter time when the true essence of the town reveals itself. Here are four reasons why we love fall!

  • No One Can Predict the Weather– No one can predict the weather, but fall usually has some beautiful days! There’s an old saying, “If you don’t like the weather in Colorado, wait five minutes.” That’s especially true in the fall! Warm, sunny days can give way to blistering cold nights and the occasional snowstorm. However, you can usually find plenty of nice days to enjoy the outdoors.
  • Goodbye, Crowds!– Fewer people means Aspen retains the small-town feel that makes it special, and fall is the perfect time to experience it. It also means that you’re more likely to get a table at your favorite restaurant or a drink in a less crowded bar.
  • Fall Foliage, of Course– There are few things more beautiful than seeing Aspen during peak foliage season. Our fall colors transform the mountains into brilliant shades of gold, so make sure you bring a camera!
  • The Party Never Stops– Summer is packed full of events, so it’s nice to take a break for a little while. In October, it all starts right back up! The Aspen Art Museum remains open, the Harvest Party fundraising event for the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies is the go-to event for the season, and The Belly Up continues to offer live music all month long.

12 of the Best Things to Do in Aspen in the Summer

1. Take a Gondola Ride

Did you know that our lifts spin even in the summertime? The Elk Camp and Silver Queen gondolas churn visitors both up and downhill. Jump on the Silver Queen Gondola right in Aspen to take in the stunning Colorado vistas and breathtaking views of our mountain town. When you make it to the top of the mountain, take some time to visit the Sundeck for lawn games, free kids activities, yoga and meditation, Bluegrass Sundays, hiking, and more.

Aspen Maroon Bells2. See Instagram-Worthy Sights

Picture yourself at the bells. No, these aren’t just any bells! The Maroon Bells are the most photographed peaks in all of Colorado, and when you visit, you’ll see why. These red rock formations reach upward from Maroon Lake to pierce the sky at over 14,000 feet. During the summer, you can catch the shuttle up from Aspen Highlands.

3. Take a Bike Ride

During your summer getaway, you’ll probably notice the abundance of bikers in town. Whether you prefer slow cruising, road biking, or adrenaline-inducing mountain biking, Aspen has something for you. The Rio Grande Trail is one of our favorites; here, you’ll find a mellow, scenic cruise on a paved pathway that runs from Aspen to Glenwood Springs. If you’d like to test your offroad skills, head to the Aspen and Snowmass bike parks. However, our all-time favorite place to bike is around town. This way, you can explore the area leisurely on your own terms.

White Water Rafting4. Get Your Adrenaline Pumping on a Raft

The Roaring Fork River is the life of the valley in the summer. If you’re looking for an adventure, let the current carry you down the river with some whitewater rafting or opt for a kayak or stand up paddleboard tour.

5. Experience the Aspen Art Scene

Spend the day being inspired by Aspen’s incredible art scene! Visit the Aspen Art Museum, then stroll around town to pop in and out of the many unique galleries that line the streets. If you’re more in tune with music, catch Jazz Aspen Snowmass, free summer concerts in Snowmass (canceled for 2021), the Aspen Music Festival Summer Season, or a show at Belly Up.

6. Go Off-Roading

Off-roading is the perfect way to experience the famous views of our area without hiking 20 miles to get there. As the snow melts, it reveals old mining roads and mountain passes that wind through the mountains. Experience the quieter, picturesque side of Aspen with the help of local guides.

After your adventures, unwind with a beer at Aspen Brewing Company, conveniently located right in downtown Aspen. Further down valley, as the locals say, don’t miss the Woody Creek Distillery in Basalt. We’re more than happy to recommend all our favorite spots, too!

8. Hit the Trails

Lace up your hiking boots and earn those breathtaking views when you hit the trails! Popular hiking spots include the Smuggler Mountain Trail, Cathedral Lake, and American Lake. Hiking is one of our favorite things to do in Aspen in the summer because the trails come alive with beautiful blooms.

9. Dine Out

We understand that when you’re on vacation, food isn’t just a necessity. It’s an experience! When you dine in Aspen, you have access to everything from caviar-covered nachos to casual barbecue.

11. Take a Stroll

Our mountain town is small and compact, so it’s the perfect place to explore on foot. There are about 200 shops and restaurants in town, so spend the day popping in and out of shops, watch kids play in the fountain, and sit back and enjoy the views. You never know who you might see!

12. Drive Up to Independence Pass

When people are looking for things to do in Aspen in the summer, we always send them to the top of Independence Pass. This stunning area is only open during the summer!
