Here’s How to Prepare for Your Trip to Aspen in March

Learn About the Weather

If you’ve never visited this part of Colorado in late winter before, you might not know what to expect. The first thing you should do when planning a vacation to Aspen in March is check the weather. You’ve probably already guessed that it will be cold, but how cold? You don’t want to wait to find out once you get here! On average, temperatures range between 21 and 46-degrees Fahrenheit. Expect lots of snow and long days on the slopes!

Pack the Right Items

After you’ve researched the temperature in Aspen, it’s time to pack your suitcase. We recommend bringing more than enough as the last thing you‘ll want to do is shiver your way through your vacation. Here are some items we recommend you add to your packing list for your winter getaway in March:

  • Gloves
  • Hats and beanies
  • Several pair of leggings or legwarmers to wear under your pants
  • Thick pants
  • Snow boots

Here’s How to Plan the Best Aspen Wedding Ever

Are you looking to plan the best destination wedding your guests have ever seen? You’ve landed on the right blog! Make Aspen your wedding location and watch the magic unfold. Right before your eyes you will be amazed as you prepare to say “I Do”. We know how daunting planning a wedding can be, and we’re here to help! In this blog, discover how to plan the most enchanting Aspen wedding and enjoy a stress-free process. So, are you ready? Read on, take notes, and get ready for your happily ever after!

Learn more about the top things to do in Aspen in our free Travel Guide! This exclusive planning tool gives you access to our favorite recommendations. Local restaurants, events, shops, museums, outdoor activities, and more. It’s a great resource to have, as you spend the first few days of your new life together in Aspen. It’s also a great guide for your guests as well.

5 Tips for Planning the Perfect Aspen Wedding

Pick the Right Time of Year

The first thing that you should probably figure out above all is when you want to get married. Now that the initial excitement of the engagement has worn off, and you need to sit down to plan things out, you might find yourself drowning in an endless list of to-dos. Where do you begin? You start by picking a date, and the only way to do that is to figure out when the best wedding season is in Aspen! Since every couple is different, there’s no straight-forward answer to that.

If you are dreaming of winter–wonderland wedding, then December and January are the perfect times to pick because there will be snow and dazzling Christmas lights. Note that the winter weather can make it tricky for guests to get there, so if you’d rather play it safe and wait for warmer days, mid-May to late August is more reasonable. Not only will you be able to enjoy sunnier days and lush mountain backdrops, but you will also have more venue options when it comes to outdoor ceremonies!

Find the Venue of Your Dreams

Now that you have a date in mind, it’s time to secure a venue for your ceremony and reception. The first thing to figure out is whether you want an outdoor or an indoor wedding. Both options are great ideas in Aspen, but outdoor ceremonies and receptions are dependent on the weather, so we still recommend having a backup plan just in case. After all, the last thing you want to do during the days leading up to your wedding is worry! If you’re not from the area, knowing where to find the most stunning venues can be tricky. Here are some of our favorites we recommend:

  • Viceroy Snowmass
  • The Viewline Resort Snowmass
  • T Lazy 7 Ranch
  • Crested Butte Mountain Resort
  • The Elevation Hotel and Spa
  • Spring Creeks Ranch
  • The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa
  • Sonnenalp Hotel

Figure Out Which Vendors to Prioritize

Congratulations! Now that you have both your wedding date and location, you can focus on all the fun details! Vendors make up a great part of your budget, so it’s important to not only know which one to prioritize, but also which ones to work with. We recommend creating a top–three list to find out what is important to you and your future spouse. For example, is photography more important than the entertainment? Is the food more important than the florals? No matter what you choose to put first, you can’t go wrong, but it helps to know where to allocate your budget. Another great idea is to work directly with your venue when choosing your vendors. Indeed, most places will have a pre-made list of businesses they exclusively work with, which can help simplify your personal search, so take advantage of it!

Spice Up Your Wedding Photoshoot!

Do you want to have a wedding photoshoot prior to your big day? This could be either an engagement shoot to create personalized save–the–dates or formal wedding portraits to avoid having to do it all on your big day. You can either do the shoot at your venue to match the photos that will be taken on your wedding day, or you can be more creative and make the most of Aspen’s stunning surroundings! There’s nothing like shooting in nature surrounded by the mountains and turquoise lakes.

Offer Your Guest (And Yourself!) Top-Notch Accommodations

Your wedding is about you and your soon-to-be spouse. However, included are all the loved ones you wish to invite. If your Aspen wedding is a destination wedding, then you will need a variety of options. Luckily for you, we have the perfect solution. Aspen Signature Vacation Rentals offers the best selection of homes and condos in the area and can accommodate couples just as much as larger families.

Browse our properties today and get a better idea of what you are looking for! We recommend booking your bridal party rentals ahead to not have to worry about it, then figure out a place for you and your spouse to stay after the reception. To make things easier for your guests, you can link our properties’ page directly on your wedding website so each can individually take care of the booking process.

Say “I Do” to Aspen Signature Vacation Rentals

Here Is the Ultimate Aspen Packing List

Are you dreaming of a vacation to Aspen with your loved ones? How couldn’t you? It’s a world-class destination and a sight to behold, however, choosing when to visit it is another story. After all, it’s a prime skiing destination as well as a wonderful adventure land for nature lovers in the hotter months. So, which one should you choose? And, most importantly, what should you pack? In this blog, we’ll help you answer both questions and give you the ultimate Aspen packing list you need for your fabulous vacation. Read on, take notes, and get ready to plan the best trip ever.

Do you know we also offer a free Travel Guide? Inside this unique planning tool, you’ll get all the top recommendations for local restaurants, events, shops, museums, and, of course, outdoor activities.

The Only Annual Aspen Packing List You Need for Your Vacation

 Winter

Winter is the time to visit if you are a ski or snowboard enthusiast and wish to make the most of the world-renowned Aspen slopes. Snow is inevitable during that time, so your suitcase needs to include the winter essentials! Here are a few items you will need to include:

  • Outer layers, including waterproof jackets and pants for skiing
  • Breathable fleece and wool jackets
  • Gloves and mittens (both for skiing and off days)
  • Thick socks so your ski shoes don’t hurt (we recommend bringing them along when you go rent your equipment!)
  • Post-ski boots
  • Scarves and hats
  • Jeans and pants
  • Lip balm to prevent your lips from drying up.

Spring

Spring is a season when you can still enjoy the slopes but also some other outdoor activities. We highly recommend you keep an eye on the weather if you choose to come then, as a lot of activities will be dependent on it. Here is what your suitcase should include:

  • Similar winter items for skiing (see above)
  • Jeans and long pants
  • Hiking boots
  • Warm socks
  • Scarf and hat
  • Breathable jackets for mountain biking
  • Under layers for extra isolation

Summer

Summer is one of the most gorgeous seasons to explore Aspen, and it’s vastly different from the winter. Forget about skiing. In the summer, it’s all about hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, and more. Here’s our summer packing list:

  • Light fabrics, like cotton
  • T-shirts
  • A long-sleeved jacket in case it gets windy
  • Hiking boots
  • Socks
  • Sandals
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Shorts and jeans
  • Swimsuits

 Fall

Lastly, if you want to wait until the summer crowd has dissipated, fall is the time to visit Aspen. Much like summer, you can pack all the essentials mentioned above and focus on outdoor activities, specifically hiking. Here’s what your hiking packing list should also include:

  • Hiking boots
  • A reusable water canteen
  • Socks
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • A windbreaker
  • A light jacket
  • A light backpack

What Is the Difference Between Vail and Aspen?

While Vail and Aspen are generally similar, there are a few differences that set them apart from each other. Both mountain towns have great views, an amazing culinary scene, and lots of things to do, but there are a few things to keep in mind during the planning process.

One Mountain Versus Four Mountains

Should I vacation in Aspen or Vail? The main difference between Vail and Aspen is the number of mountains. Vail has one large mountain while Aspen has four smaller mountains.

Vail is unique because of its back bowls, a seven-mile-wide ski slope. If you love untamed skiing, this is a great opportunity. Aspen gives you the choice of four different mountains, and each offers something different. They’re all connected by free shuttles, so getting around is easy. Plus, Snowmass Mountain is home to the Long Shot, the longest run in the state.

Aspen Is Less Crowded During the Winter

Because Vail is so close to Denver, many Denver residents use Vail as their winter respite. Many Denverites travel the two and a half hours to Vail on the weekends, so the slopes are much more crowded. Because there are so many mountains and trails in Aspen, there are rarely any lines to start skiing.

The Town

If you’re looking for a quaint downtown area, Aspen is the way to go. Vail doesn’t exactly have a downtown area, although there are a few boutiques, restaurants, and shops for you to stroll through. Aspen, however, has a bustling city center. The town was constructed in the 1870s, so the history adds to its charm. The opera house is one of the oldest buildings in town, and there are many things to do besides skiing here!
